The Oakville community is heartbroken by the tragic passing of Melody Xu, a cherished young member of the Oakville Hornets Girls Hockey Association, who lost her life in a car accident in Oakville, Ontario. Melody was more than just a talented hockey player — she was a bright light whose joy, kindness, and love for the game touched everyone around her. Her smile lit up the rink, her laughter echoed through the halls, and her determination inspired her teammates and coaches alike.
Melody’s passing leaves an indescribable void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the entire hockey community. She embodied the true spirit of the Hornets — teamwork, courage, and an unshakeable love for the sport. Though her time with us was far too short, her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In her honour, the Oakville Hornets Girls Hockey Association has invited families, friends, and the broader hockey community to place a hockey stick outside their doors or on their porches this week. This simple yet powerful gesture — “Put Your Sticks Out for Melody MX6” — symbolizes unity, love, and remembrance. It is a heartfelt tribute to a little girl who brought so much joy to the ice and whose spirit continues to unite the community she loved so deeply.
Let us fill our streets and neighborhoods with sticks for Melody — reminders of her infectious enthusiasm, her courage on the ice, and the warmth she shared off it. As the hockey sticks stand tall, they represent not only Melody’s passion for the game but also the collective strength and compassion of those who grieve her loss.
To the Xu family, we extend our deepest condolences and prayers. May you find comfort in knowing that Melody’s light continues to shine brightly in every heart she touched. Her teammates, coaches, and friends will carry her memory with them always — every game played, every goal scored, and every cheer will be for her.
💛 Forever a Hornet. Forever in our hearts, MX6. 🖤
Rest in peace, dear Melody. Your spirit will forever glide across the ice and live on in the love of your Hornets family and community.
